The controversial, American and Israeli-supported Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) announces it is concluding its aid operations in the affected area, following nearly half a year.

The group had previously halted its several relief locations in Gaza following the halt in hostilities between Palestinian factions and Israel was implemented recently.

The foundation sought to circumvent United Nations channels as the main supplier of relief to Palestinian residents.

UN and other aid agencies would not collaborate with its system, saying it was unethical and unsafe.

Many residents were killed while attempting to obtain sustenance amid chaotic scenes near the organization's distribution points, mostly by Israeli fire, based on UN documentation.

The Israeli military claimed its soldiers fired cautionary rounds.

Program Termination

The GHF said on the beginning of the week that it was terminating work now because of the "successful completion of its emergency mission", with a cumulative three million shipments containing the corresponding to over 187 million food portions delivered to Palestinians.

The organization's top administrator, Jon Acree, also said the American-directed Civil-Military Coordination Center - which has been set up to help implement the United States' Palestinian peace proposal - would be "adopting and expanding the approach the organization demonstrated".

"GHF's model, in which Palestinian factions were unable to divert and benefit from humanitarian assistance, had major impact in convincing militant groups to participate and establishing a truce."

Comments and Positions

The militant group - which disputes allegations of misappropriation - welcomed the closure of the aid organization, according to reports.

A representative of stated GHF should be held accountable for the harm it caused to Palestinians.

"We call upon all international human rights organisations to guarantee that responsibility is assigned after resulting in fatalities and harm of many residents and concealing the food deprivation strategy practised by the Israeli government."

Organization Timeline

The GHF began operations in Gaza on late May, a seven days following the Israeli government had moderately reduced a comprehensive closure on aid and commercial deliveries to Gaza that persisted for nearly three months and led to substantial deficiencies of essential supplies.

After 90 days, a nutritional emergency was proclaimed in Gaza City.

The foundation's nourishment distribution centers in various parts of the Palestinian territory were administered by United States-based protection companies and located inside regions under Israeli military authority.

Aid Organization Objections

International organizations and their affiliates stated the approach violated the fundamental humanitarian principles of non-partisanship, even-handedness and self-determination, and that guiding distressed residents into armed forces regions was intrinsically hazardous.

International human rights monitoring body said it recorded the deaths of a minimum of 859 residents attempting to obtain nourishment in the proximity to foundation locations between 26 May and 31 July.

A further 514 persons were fatally wounded around the routes of UN and other aid convoys, it further stated.

Most of them were fatally wounded by the Israel's armed forces, based on the agency's reports.

Contrasting Reports

Israeli defense forces said its forces had discharged cautionary rounds at people who approached them in a "menacing" fashion.

The GHF said there were no shootings at the aid sites and accused the UN of using "inaccurate and deceptive" statistics from Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry.

Future Implications

The GHF's future had been uncertain since Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities consented a truce agreement to execute the primary segment of the American administration's peace initiative.

The agreement stated aid distribution would take place "free from intervention from the both sides through the international bodies and their affiliates, and the Red Crescent, in combination with other global organizations not connected in any way" with militant groups and the Israeli government.

International organization official the international body's communicator stated recently that the foundation's closure would have "no influence" on its activities "since we never collaborated with them".

The spokesperson additionally stated that while additional assistance was reaching the Palestinian territory since the truce was implemented on October 10th, it was "not enough to meet all the needs" of the 2.1 million population.
